WIC OFFICES are open during the federal government shutdown. WIC continues to serve and enroll families. Families should continue to use their benefits and attend their WIC appointments.

You want to be healthy and raise a healthy family. WIC is here to help!

The Women, Infants and Children program offers one-on-one counseling sessions about nutrition, breastfeeding and health; answers to your questions while you are pregnant and as your child grows; breastfeeding support from an IBCLC (International Board Certified Lactation Consultant); parent sessions for you and others with a knowledgeable WIC educator; a chance to speak with a WIC Registered Dietitian Nutritionist if you have a health problem or concerns about your child’s development; referrals to healthcare programs and other community resources; and benefits to buy healthy foods - such as fruits and vegetables, whole grains, milk, eggs, bread, cereal, juice, peanut butter, soy milk, tofu and more!

You may qualify for California WIC if you: 

  • are pregnant
  • are breastfeeding a baby less than 1 year of age
  • just had a baby (or recent pregnancy loss) in the last 6 months, or
  • have a child or care for a child under age 5, or
  • have low-to-medium income or receive Medi-Cal, CalWORKs (TANF), or CalFresh (SNAP) benefits; 
  • and live in California

You are also welcome to join WIC if you are: a single dad, a foster parent, a grandparent, a stepparent, an adoptive parent, or a guardian with a child under 5; families of farm workers are also welcome to apply!

WIC staff may ask you to bring your infant or child enrolling into WIC to the WIC office. They may ask you to provide:

  • Identification - for yourself & any child(ren) age birth to 5 years.
  • Proof of address - a document verifying your current address.
  • Proof of your family's household income - current documentation such as a paycheck, tax return or letter from employer.
  • Proof of pregnancy
  • Medical forms filled out by your health care provider. 

Even if you’re working You may be eligible for WIC even if you or a family member is working!

Even if you have private medical insurance you may be eligible for WIC even if you or a family member has private medical insurance. Having insurance does not affect your eligibility.

Automatically income-eligible

  • Are you or another family member receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families)? Then you automatically meet the WIC income requirements.
  • Are you receiving Medi-Cal, Cal Fresh benefits, and/or FDPIR? Then you may qualify for WIC benefits.
